Camp Nou Barcelona, Spain
Spotify Camp Nou
In June 2023, work began on the renovation of Spotify Camp Nou, a project to refurbish and expand the stadium to adapt it to new times and people. With a capacity of close to 105,000 spectators, it will become the largest stadium in Europe in terms of capacity, and will be characterized by being an open, spacious, covered, comfortable, accessible, and sustainable space.
TORRELLA Ingeniería-Arquitectura has entrusted ABAA Arquitectura and Mur Arquitectura, joining its team as consultants, with the development of the interior design and general architecture of the stadium.
Following the concept of the project by Nikken Sekkei—the studio that won the international competition—“The project aims to leave a mark of the essence of Barcelona, remaining loyal to the original Camp Nou and achieving a balance between Mediterranean architecture and social, economic, and environmental sustainability.”
It will combine the renovation of the protected structure of Francesc Mitjans' original stadium (1954) with the construction of a completely new third tier of stands.
In the GAP, a gallery space between the two TTE constructions, vertical communication cores will rise like monumental columns around Mitjans' stadium, climbing up to the new ring.
FC Barcelona's new coliseum, as well as the urban planning and spaces planned for its surroundings, are one of the major transformations underway in Barcelona. It is an emblematic project for the city, which receives millions of visitors each year.
