Duet Sports Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Sant Boi de Llobregat (Barcelona)

Sport and revitalising city life

The project developed for the Duet Sports chain occurs in two locations in the metropolitan area of Barcelona: Santa Coloma de Gramanet and Sant Boi de Llobregat.

In Santa Coloma de Gramenet, an extremely dense, built-up town, the City Council has launched a meticulous and imaginative process for obtaining and revaluing land for public uses, facilities and green areas.

In the case of the swimming pool at the Duet Sports Fondo Centre, land was reclaimed for a new public square. The sports centre was located below this and below it a public car park and shopping area. Intensely functional promiscuity where it is needed in order to serve a lively city.

The proposal is completed with solutions that makes the best of natural light and thereby avoids the feeling of being in a space five metres below ground level.

Open spaces and interconnecting sightlines between the building’s various spaces and areas have been sought when developing the indoor space. From the lobby to the swimming pool, from the fitness area to the reception and bar area, all the club's activities can be glimpsed.

In Sant Boi de Llobregat, work is underway on building and managing the Pau Gasol Sports Complex.

The building has been constructed on the same site as the neighbourhood’s former summer swimming pool. It consists of a triple sports centre, a large recreational and therapeutic water area, two swimming pools, two paddle tennis courts and various multi-purpose rooms for the practice of supervised activities.

The inauguration of the complex makes explicit the link with Pau Gasol, world famous athlete and one of the best basketball players of all time.
